Vanessa has experience working directly with students in a wide range of nonprofit organizations including the Oklahoma WONDERtorium, the YMCA of greater Tulsa, the Union of Vietnamese Student Associations-South Region. These opportunities have contributed to her knowledge and skills in varied areas of the nonprofit sector and increased her interest in the education area.

Prior to joining ImpactTulsa, Vanessa served as an AmeriCorps member for two and half years in the Tulsa Public School district. As a City Year member, she served at an elementary school as a mid-year member and at a middle school as a team leader in a new partnership, creating and implementing practices that decrease early warning indicators of school dropout. She also served as a site coordinator for Reading Partners, improving literacy skills for elementary students Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Through these opportunities, she had the opportunity to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
With ImpactTulsa, she is excited to learn more about the education landscape in the Tulsa area and help inform leaders in the community about best practices in education and streamlining those efforts and resources.
