Darla Liggins, Senior Director of Strategy and Operations
Most recently, Darla served as an executive director with Enriched Schools, an education startup company and community talent hub in ten cities nationwide. Darla launched the D.C. region of Enriched Schools in 2015 and grew the program to serve and support over 30 schools with talented and engaging substitute teachers. While managing the Washington, DC region, Darla also supported Enriched growth nationwide by launching new regions in Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Atlanta. Prior to joining Enriched Schools, Darla led alumni a national strategy to build an alumni program to support students in college and career at college-access organization Peer Forward. In this capacity, she supported 11 regions across 10 states with engaging over 50,000 alumni programming through the development of regional advisory boards, a national alumni council and online communities. Darla approaches all of her work with a heart of a great teacher. Her career started off as a Teach For America teacher in New Orleans and Washington, DC where she taught third, fourth and fifth grade English and social studies.
When Darla’s not working, she’s actively volunteering in her community. She established and is the former chair of First Book-DC, the local affiliate of First Book, and has led the volunteer team to raise funds and award over a half million books to teachers, non-profits and community programs serving kids in need since 2011. Darla’s received The EnVest Foundation’s 40under40 Award, Millennial Week’s Award for Social Good and numerous other accolades for her public service contributions. She is a member of the Junior League of Tulsa, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and leads a women’s small group bible study at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s of education with a focus in education policy and leadership from American University. She lives in North Tulsa with her husband and enjoys bike riding, traveling and discovering new restaurants.
